Bankruptcy attorney fees vary widely for businesses because they can be complicated and lengthy. For consumers though the average fixed service fee rate ranges from $1,000 to $2,500. The higher fee will be charged when there are additional matters to address such as outstanding IRS debt. There should always be a written agreement between the client and the attorney that lists the attorney fees and court filing fees that are included in the total amount. Attorneys may charge a fixed service fee as mentioned or will charge by the hour. The fixed service free agreement is the most common agreement for consumer bankruptcies. Many attorneys will agree to accept an initial fee and accept payments for the balance. The important point is that the fees and payment arrangements should be clearly understood up front.
