Consumer Privacy Ombudsman

A Consumer Privacy Ombudsman is a person who is appointed by the bankruptcy court whose job it is to protect the privacy of a consumer debtor in a bankruptcy proceeding. If a bankruptcy trustee sells, liquidates, or leases the bankrupt debtor's property and personal information may be made available through the selling or leasing of the property, then a Consumer Privacy Ombudsman would be tasked with protecting the debtor's privacy regarding his or her personal and identifiable information. The privacy of a debtor's information as well as their financial situation is not taken lightly, and the United States Bankruptcy Code contains these provisions in order to make sure to safeguard a debtor's personal information in the event of any matters relating to a bankruptcy filing.
