Examiner

In a bankruptcy case, an examiner is an official officer who has been appointed by the bankruptcy court in a chapter 11 bankruptcy case. The examiner's role is to review specific aspects of the operation of a chapter 11 debtor. Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows a debtor to remain in business or in possession of their property, and lays out an approved reorganization plan allowing the claims of the debtor's creditors to be repaid either wholly or in part according to the plan. An examiner in a chapter 11 reorganization case investigates the debtor's operation, and may also be used as a mediator, assisting the bankruptcy court in resolving any disputes between different factions involved in a chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
