If you know someone who has filed for bankruptcy, you could ask him or her about his or her lawyer. Work your network of family, friends, business associates, accountants, or others who can recommend a referral. Besides referrals, you can also search for bankruptcy lawyers in your local yellow pages or on the net.

You can also contact your local bar association. They will have a list of local bankruptcy lawyers. Referrals, yellow pages, the net and bar associations are only the starting point. You should then research the lawyer's credentials and background. Look for news reports about the lawyer, articles written by the lawyer, cases the lawyer has succeeded.
