Filing bankruptcy is becoming more common theses days being so many consumers are under employed and can't keep up with their bills. There's simply just not enough jobs available and employers aren't paying the same salaries they use to.The same goes for attorneys as they are part of the work force also seeking good paying jobs. Just to go to law school and pass the state bar isn't all there is to it, you have to get a good paying job as well. Bankruptcy filings are steadily increasing, and a trailing indicator of our economy. So what does this mean to consumers? Bankruptcy filings will continue to increase, and things will probably get worse before they get better.

Bankruptcy "Law Firms" Popping Up

For this reason bankruptcy law firms and bankruptcy attorneys are popping up out of nowhere seeking to capitalize on a booming industry. Yes, all of a sudden everyone and their brother is now a bankruptcy attorney. It's not as easy as one might think to properly file a bankruptcy petition, eliminate a filers debts and properly protect their assets.

Find an Experienced Attorney

Similar to being a doctor, attorneys typically specialize in an area of practice rather than trying to be a "Jack of all trades and a Master of None". Another words, hire a bankruptcy attorney who's law practice focuses mainly on filing bankruptcy, not family law etc. While many of these attorneys think filing bankruptcy is a stroll in the park we see them get their clients cases dismissed in Bankruptcy Court all the time.

Important Subtleties of Bankruptcy Law

Bankruptcy law is a specialty and bankruptcy attorneys need to be up to date on state exemptions, bankruptcy laws, pre petition planning, time lines, and what to do at a 341 creditors hearing. More importantly, most of these attorneys have no clue on how to file and proceed with a business bankruptcy Chapter 7, Chapter 13, Chapter 20 or Chapter 11. We even see mistakes with simple Chapter 7 filing in some cases.

I have written several articles about bankruptcy and how to locate a bankruptcy attorney in your area. The Law Offices of Zhou & Chini focus on all types of bankruptcies and have experience filing Chapter 7, Chapter 13, Chapter 20 and Chapter 11. We offer reasonable fees, payment plans, and free consultations. Please shop around for a bankruptcy attorney and consider how long the attorney has been filing bankruptcy. James D. Zhou has been filing bankruptcy for over 10 years and focuses mainly on bankruptcy, foreclosure defense and criminal law.
